Hewlett-Packard Co, is hoping to tap into the tablet market dominated by Apple Inc's iPad. The tablet will will be available for sale on July 1 2011, and the pricing is stated to be $499.99 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model and $599.99 for 32GB storage capacity, Palo Alto, California-based Hewlett-Packard said in a statement.
US customers will be the first to try their hand on it, followed by the UK, France, Germany, Ireland and Canada. Other countries will see the shipments arriving as summer progresses. As mentioned, the TouchPad's first version will have Wi-Fi technology to connect to the Internet through wireless hot spots, and a future version will connect through AT&T wireless network.
PC makers are gearing up into the tablet market as consumers are attracted towards the smaller, touchscreen computers after iPads evolution. Growth in PC shipments has lowered this year from 7.1% to 4.2% as the demand for tablets and smartphones has considerably increased.

HP TouchPad will compete with the iPad, Motorola Xoom and the RIM's PlayBook. The biggest competitor iPad2 looks way ahead exploring different sections in technology. We can only hope that the big daddy remains silent for some time, to give room for others.
